Shoe monument for man who threw footwear at Bush

Friday, January 30th, 2009

What is the world coming to! Shoe monument for the man who threw his shoes at President Bush when he had a state visit earlier last year  Bet that’ll make him feel a million times better when he’s having 1000 lashings with a cane or something  LINK

TIKRIT, Iraq (Reuters) – An Iraqi town has unveiled a giant monument of a shoe in honour of the journalist who threw his footwear at former U.S. President George W. Bush.

The two-metre (six-foot) high statue, unveiled Thursday in former dictator Saddam Hussein’s home town of Tikrit, depicts a bronze-coloured shoe, filled with a plastic shrub. “Muntazer: fasting until the sword breaks its fast with blood; silent until our mouths speak the truth,” reads an inscription, in honour of journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi, who hurled his shoes at Bush and called him a “dog” at a news conference during the former president’s final visit to Iraq.

Zaidi has been held in jail in Baghdad since the incident, facing charges of assaulting a visiting head of state.

Fatin Abdul Qader, head of an orphanage and children’s organisation in the town, said the one-and-a-half-tonne monument by artist Laith al-Amiri was titled “statue of glory and generosity.”

“This statue is the least expression of our appreciation for Muntazer al-Zaidi, because Iraqi hearts were comforted by his throw,” she said.

The joys of the Toon!

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Been a while since I really wrote anything about my beloved Newcastle United, as I’m too gutted at the fact the club that was once challenging Man Utd for the Premier League title under Kevin Keegan, and finished 2nd a few times under Sir Bobby has dropped to such a level! I know it’s not our god given right to be in the top half challenging for Europe every year like Villa and Everton seem to be, but with the fan base we have, along with a ground like ours, we should have no problem attracting some decent players in! Our problem according to my mother, is we get young players in, like Jon Dahl Tomasson and Hugo Viana, and then expect wonderful things from them straight away, then let them go, where they seem to go on to better things like in Dahl Tomassons case, joining AC Milan and winning a few things (I think he won a few medals over there  ) altho Viana just seemed to lose his way, having been touted as being better than Ronaldo back in their youth :?

Now it’s got better in this last week running up to the Tyne-Wear Derby! Firstly we lose Michael Owen to injury along with Barton both of whom have injuried keeping them out for a good few weeks, with Owens being undetermined till a scan and Barton fracturing a metatarsal in his right foot!  Things just seem to get even better with long-time number 1 Shay Given handing in a transfer request according to the BBC Website, and Charlie N’Zogbia being insulted by Joke Kinnear in a recent post-match interview in the recent defeat to Man City at Eastlands :(    Charlie is believed to have said he will no longer play for the club under Joke Kinnear, after he called him “Insomnia” LINK.  Slightly better news is the club actually trying to sign a player I’ve liked for quite a while! Seems Kevin Nolan is in toon having a medical at the moment, and I think he’s the sort of attacking midfielder we’ve lacked for ages!  Lets hope that the players can stop the fucking rot against the unwashed from down the road! Steven Taylor has acknowledged that we’re in a relgation fight, and to be honest it’s only the players that can drag ourselves out of it! Having spoken to Mark earlier, he said Kinnears style of managing,  basically ranting at your players, is too old school and dont work anymore, and thats all he seems to have to offer!

Few random bits…

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Firstly Happy Birthday to John “Pretty Boy” Martin, Have a good one youth!

Last night was a little random on one or two counts!  Browsing Sky Sports website in the Newcastle United section, as I’m kinda going through a “can’t be arsed with them at the minute” sort of phase and haven’t been to up-to-date with matters, apart from the fact Ameobi’s signed till 2012 thanks to the Special one on IOSS    Anyway I came across this article HERE.  The Forest boys must be lapping it up right now! Billy Davies seems to have them pulling away slightly from the relegation zone, which Calderwood left them stuck close to, and so now we’ve added another ex-Forest manager to our staff! John summed it up when he replied to a text saying “Ha you’re going down” Cheers pal!

Also I had a friends request last night on Facebook from Hilary White.  Having looked at the person, I envisaged that it can’t be my mother, due to the fact she’s put the birthday as 2nd September 19** when hers is in October  Turns out it was anyway, Suppose it’s the best weapon she has into knowing what her 4 darling kids are upto

This morning I’ve decided to try and kick start one or two changes, so made sure I had some brekafast for the first time in god knows how long (not including the hearty McDonalds brekkie sunday mornings) and have a nice carton of Orange juice on the desk as opposed to copious amounts of shite coffee from the vending machine at 20p a pop  Also rather than the cookies I had yesterday, I’ve replaced them with a few Bananas! :D

Long weekend!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

So last week I decided to put a days holiday in for the first time since June or when ever it was I went to Spain (I think anyway :? )

Thursday was a busy-ish day trying to make sure everything was sorted, and  ended up typically staying a little later than normal to get a design & quote done that had appeared at 5pm  Like I said it’s typical    Once I’d sorted myself some tea out, I went on COD 5 again, with the intention of trying to reach Prestige Level 1 before the weekend was out! Only problem was it seemed to be taking ages, but Lee Westwood came online with Ryan, and so we had a few games as a party and had a laugh, but by 12 I was shattered and couldn’t keep my bloody eyes open, so ended up in bed.  Friday brought some good news, altho I was awake by 9am :( Received a letter through the post which I thought I’d better open, and then half expected the worst when I saw that it was on Northern Rock printed paper!  After giving it a read it turned out to be good news, and thats to the rates coming down, I should be saving about £60 a month on my mortgage now! Happy days :)   Time to start looking at other ways to sort my money out, and then I can start changing things for the better    Did a bit of tidying in between playing a few online games and had a nice long soak in the bath which made me feel 10 times better than I did when I woke up, feeling as groggy as ever :(

Went to football, and it wasn’t the best turn-out, as q few of the lads had gone to Derby to watch the Derby vs Forest game but still a good few folks turned up.  Were pretty even sides, and we all did our stint in net for once :p  Scored a few good goals, my highlights being one where I saw Alanman coming out, so slid in, and kept sliding, and hooked the ball round him before he could get there, and kept sliding  You know the kind!  From there I buggered off home, and got Setanta on ready for the big East Midlands Derby game.  Was an awesome atmosphere, and the first half belonged to Derby and they scored when they were on top, but 2nd half Forest came out all guns blazing, and scored almost a reapet of the Derby goal, getting it wide, low cross in, and an attacker dummying it for the bloke behind him to slot it home.  John was behind the goal in the Forest end, and I text him to say the injury to Anderson looked pretty bad, and they’d said on telly he’d dislocated it and fractured it! It was a nothing challenge, but he did it with the way he fell.

Saturday morning I headed over to the coffee shop to meet my mother, and had a chat with her and Sue over a coffee or two, and then I said I’d take my mum over to Matalan and McArthur Glen as she was lending me some money, and I wanted to look at a few bits and bobs, and ended up with some new combats and a climafit vest from the Adidas shop that was marked at £40, but down to £15, so I bought it, Would be rude not too, wouldnt it!   Dropped my mother off in town, and then sorted myself some food out, and then chille dout on the Xbox for a bit.  Had a few games with Daz and chatted away to him, and before I knew it I’d reached the Holy Grail I’d been aiming for for a while now! Prestige Level 1 :lol; Having been called a GEEK the other day by Maddsy and Crit for playing the game a little to excessively maybe, I wanted to get to Prestige Level 1 atleast before calming down on it for a bit :)   Spent the rest of the evening chilling out watching the 2nd film in The Matrix trilogy, having watched the first one on Friday night before bed, and found myself asleep by 12!!

Woke up bout 8:45 and got ready for football.  Checked my phone at the exact moment I got a text message through from Maddsy with his order for breakfast! All because I mentioned I’d be round to his house after I’d got myself some MacDonalds.  Picked up the order, and then ended up sat at the table with Kieran laughing at him as we were both going “You da man”  We really do have a similar mental age me and that lad it’s great.  Got to football, and was gutted to find myself on the bench, but I understood why, and part of me is glad, as we were absolutley shite! We couldn’t pass the ball for shit, and everyone was more interested in taking 5 players on, an scoring themselves! Maddsy pointed out at ha;f-time that it’s much easier, if surrounded by players, to pass the ball back to the thrower, rather than turn and try and take players on which is what certain players were doing, but one or two just scoffed as if they knew better!  I didnt appreciate the abuse I got from the front 2 on sunday, for doing everyone a favour and running the line for the opponents, as they had a bare 11 men!  Each decision was not even close! And on two or three occassions Maddsy even said they were miles off!

Match Report…

Although we have extended our unbeaten run to 9 games, todays performance was the poorest from the RandK team this season.

Credit must be given to Jewels 08, who despite struggling to pick up points recently gave their all and are unlucky not to be walking away with at least a point today.

Jock returned after his 35 day suspension but was largely disappointing like most of our players today.

For some reason we are not playing with a smile on our faces and it was as early as the 10th minute today before players started getting on their team mates backs. Mouthing off never solves anything, if something does’nt go right for you, get your head down and keep giving your all.

Today we played like primary school kids, when players shouted for the ball all you could here was the name of the player that had it, you need to shout were you are, in the middle, down the line etc etc.

Also today we were disappointing on throw-ins no one would make space then all of a sudden we had 3 players making the same runs. Its basics boys!

We did managed to get into a 2 nil lead thanks to Bud and another great finish by Nick, however a freak goal and poor tracking back resulted in Jewels equalising on the 40th minute mark. Good play by Nick resulted in Bud scoring to put our noses infront right on half-time.

Half-time 3-2

We started the second half in good form and were penning Jewels into their own half, however a jewels player was left unmarked to score a free header to bring the game back level.

At this stage we were all over the place again, subs were being made but no one took the game by the scruff of the neck. A collision between 2 Jewels players resulted in one of them with a suspected broken nose, and with no subs they had to play with 10 men, and we still could not finish them off!

In stoppage time we were awarded a penalty, this penalty is seen by the Jewels players and even some of ours as dubious, however the defender went in 2 footed on Winty and although did not knock him up in the air, he did clip him then the ball. No player can go in two-footed and get away with it as it is classed as Intent.

With the pressure on, Brad calmly stepped up and slotted the ball instead the Keepers right hand post and RandK played the out-of-jail card.

Jewels should take note from their performance today, on todays performance they should not be where they are in the league and i hope they claim a few scalps this season as they very nearly did today.

A real poor performance from the team today, if we play like this next week in the cup we will get spanked! Its up to you guys as players as to how much you want it now!

MOM – Rob, chosen by Col. A steady performance today but will be gutted with conceding 3 goals, something he has not done in the last 10 games.

Goal summary:

21 min – Richard Waring (7/10)
Chris Wint supplied the cross, and Richard Waring found the net from six yards out with a speculative left footed effort.

27 min – Nick Jones (9/10)
A spectacular individual goal and a moment of magic! Good lead up play from Scott Hart led to Nick Jones scoring from long range with the right foot.

45 min – Richard Waring (7/10)
Richard Waring fired home from close range with a speculative right foot goal, following a cross from Nick Jones.

92 min – Ste Bradshaw (8/10)
Penalty. Some good work from Chris Wint led to an offence in the box, and with a superb right footed shot Ste Bradshaw hit the mark.

Spent half the afternoon round at my mum and dads having my Sunday dinner, and messing about on the Wii! My dad never does things by the halves, and since my mum wanted the Wii fit when they bought it, but they’d run out when they bought the Wii, since then they’ve now got tennis racquet, baseball bat, Wii Fit, Wii Yoga Mat, Wii fitness mat, Wii personal trainer etc    Only had a quick blast on pool, which is more difficult than I first imagined, but got the hang of it eventually :D Spent the evening watching the last of the Matrix trilogy, before being in bed quite early!  Monday was a busyish day at work again, and then I ended up in the gym afterwards working on the chest!  It was the first chest session in about 3 weeks, and it bloody hurt  Explained to John that I was feeling so tired all the time, and he reccommended some Iron tablets and vitamins, as I’m obviously not getting enough from my diet! Which I think stems from the start of the year having my tooth out, then working the Autosport show !Now things have calmed down again, I can get back into a decent diet (apart from tonight when I’m having a large Dominos Pizza and Chicken Strippers    Thats all for now :)

Back to the gym..

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Not really been to the gym much this year, even tho I said I wanted to go as often as I can or “Batter the gym” I think my words were near the New Year  but went last night and had a quick back session, before heading home, having a bit of a game on COD 5 with Crit and then ended up watching a film in bed :(

We’ve just got Proweb to add a Spam filter onto our mmx3.com domain which is where all the email addresses are, and so far it’s proving pretty good! Suppose we’ll see after the weekend, when there is normally between 40 and 50 spam emails waiting for me on a monday morning!!  Some of the subject lines in the spam caught are awesome!

  • Even Godzilla was never this huge – My new personal fave
  • Unleash your bazooka today
  • Take what you want from her – As opposed to them taking half of everything you own
  • The power drill that makes her come

For some reason tho we’ve noticed that this years theme behind most of the spam is bloody Swiss Watches :? or Acai Berries!!

Anyways need to get myself to an Army supplies store round Mansfield ready for Johns Birthday night out! Hitting Mansfield dressed as Army Men! I was gonna go a bit to extreme and go as a sniper  But think camo combats, and a vest top with bullet belt and  toy gun will surfice

Housewife takes washing repair man hostage!!

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Saw this when checking my emails at dinner…. What a story

A woman became so sick of her constantly malfunctioning washing machine that she took drastic action and held the repair man hostage.

Tracey Fox, 42, of Thornley, County Durham, bought her washing machine 10 months ago. She had called out an engineer to repair it on five occasions.

On January 13, her patience finally ran out. After surviving without her washing machine for three weeks, she took the law into her own hands. She barricaded herself against the door and refused to let the Currys engineer out of her home.

The engineer believed he had found the root of the problem when the extricated a two pence coin from the machine.

But when he started to pack up his equipment, Mrs Fox insisted he take a more thorough look. She told the repair man he could not leave and blocked his exit by sitting in front of her back door.

After the engineer and Mrs Fox agreed to end the stand-off by calling the police, the situation was resolved amicably. In addition, Currys have since supplied Mrs Fox with a new washing machine.

Autosport International Show 2009

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Thats the reason I’m feeling so fricking shattered    Lets hope all the hours me and Maddsy have put in during them 4 days are beneficial to the company and everything :)

Well I am certainly glad them last 2 weeks are out of the way! We’ve gone from being quiet in the lead up to Christmas, to things suddenly almost exploding at work! Not sure how much we can attribute to the Autosport Show, but fingers crossed things are starting to improve!

Lets start from the Monday I started back to work shall we  Seems as good a place as any for the latest update! Monday morning was quite busy catching up on things that had come in over Christmas regarding online enquiries and things, and the morning seemed to fly past, and it wasn’t long before I was having to  leave work and head to the dentist! I was nervous as usual, but this time it was the extraction of the tooth that was more uncomfortable than the injection! Something it turns out Wendy says the same about! I was uncomfortable for the rest of the evening, and for some reason my lip and tongue were still numb the following morning, after a not too good nights sleep :(
