First of all I’ll get the sad part out of the way.  I’d like to send my respects out to Stephen Dawsons family and friends after he suffered a heart attack at the age of 26 and passed away the Friday night just gone :(   I have some great memories of Dawson, namely from the night out dressed as Centurions for John and Scotts birthday the other month, specially when he turned up with a massive bottle, which contained some of the harshest drink ever  .  He was one of a kind, and a real gentle giant who will be sorely missed by everyone who he had come into contact with through his short life. RIP Big Man and I hope you’re keeping an eye on us from up there.

On to more heart touching news.  Watching a tv show over here in the UK called Russell Howard’s Good News, and he goes through the weekly news articles making jokes out of them, but also at the end, he has a sort of feel good section where they show people doing good deeds and things.  This last week they showed a story of a bed-ridden girl who had set up a website, and her story is below…

I’ve been ill on and off since I was young, and have been bedbound for the past 7 years with severe ME. For 5 years I was unable to walk or even sit up but I have now improved and can go out of the house in my wheelchair from time to time which I’m loving! Like so many with chronic illnesses all my friends lost touch with me and I became isolated. When I first became bedbound I was sent so many cards it wasn’t long before my walls and ceiling were covered, it became my reason to wake up each day.

It was this that gave me the idea for Post Pals, although I hoped it would “catch on” I didn’t dream it would touch as many lives as it has, both families with seriously ill children and of the volunteers around the world. I’m so very proud of it! I do the running of Post Pals from bed with a laptop, and my room (and I confess a big chunk of my parents house) looks like a cross between a mail room and a toy shop!

Anyway the website is www.postpals.co.uk and there is a multitude of kids on here with a massive assortment of illnesses, so I thought it’d be nice to send an email to one of the kids to just try and cheer up their day.  Reading some of these strories makes me realise just how easy I have had it, despite losing hearing in one of my ears when I was about 8ish and also having a blockage in my Kidney which resulted in an operation when I was even younger.  Why not send one of these kids an email, letter or a gift if youhave anything laying around that maybe appears in the kids interests just to put a smile on their face :)

Now to the important part…. NEWCASTLE UNITED HAVE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.  When we went down, I kinda feared the worst with many people outside our club fearing/hoping that we would implode financially, and that we’d end up being fastracked down into League 1.  Many Forest fans were also adamant that we’d really struggle in this league and our “fancy-dan” type players would hate it when faced with Wet and Windy nights in Blackpool.  We did as it turned out, but what has gone on this seaosn has been great.  We’ve got 1 game to go at home, and we could end the season with an unbeaten home record for the first time in about 100 odd years, become only the 4th team to record 100 points at this level of football, and we’ve suddenly got a feel good factor around the place again.  4 defeats all season is an amazing feat too for a team that was expected to struggle for even a play-off place like the Celtic-Rejects down the road in Smogville ;)   I’m not gonna be one of those typical fans that they interview on Sky Sports News saying that we’re back where we belong and it’s our god given right to be in the Premier League (Unlike Man Utd and Chelsea fans who think it’s their god-given right to be in the semi-finals of the Champions League ATLEAST every year haha!)  Relegation it seems has probably been the best thing that could have happened to the team, and I’m now looking forward to driving up on the Saturday, even tho we don’t have tickets for the game as we didn’t decide to go up till it was too late, and enjoying the celebrations as the whole of the toon will be buzzing!
