Swine Flu party anyone?

This is the most bizarre thing I’ve heard for a while.  I found out on the BBC website that people are having parties with people with flu, with the aim of contracting the Swine Flu virus whilst it’s in it’s mild strain, knowing once it mutates with the Winter flu over here in the UK, that it’ll become more potent.  Here’s the link to the story:

Throwing “swine flu parties” in an attempt to get immunity against the virus while it is a fairly mild form is not a good idea, doctors say.

Reports have emerged of people intentionally mixing with friends who have flu.

Their reasoning is that it is best to be infected before the winter when the virus could become more deadly.

Well last nights European Championship Under 21 final was a bit of an anti-climax.  The score line being pretty embarrasing.  The Germans must have started the mind games by choosing to wear their Red Away kit, rather than letting the English bring back memories of 1966  Anyway we looked lightweight up front, and in Ozil Germany have a star in the making.  He was awesome last night.  I’d love to see him in our Custard and Cream away kit next season in the Championship haha! Altho it seems Werder Bremen have decided he’s the man to replace Diego, their talisman.  So they have a lot of faith in him it seems.

I’m still unsure how to feel regarding Andy Murray.  It does make me laugh how wound up certain Scottish people get when he’s announced as the best “British” hope of winning Wimbledon, yet under Tim Henman he was the best “English” hope.  I sort of disliked him when he said he’d support “anyone who plays England” in the World Cup in Germany, He did well last night tho.

Tonight I get to find out who shot Horatio Caine in CSI MIami, as the new season starts on channel 5.  I was rather stupid in thinking it started ;ast week, so I ended up watching the final episode again, knowing what had happened already! Whoops

Anyone for tennis?

Man I’m shattered after this weekend.  First off congrats to England U21′s who have reached tonights final of the U21 Euro championships, where we will no doubt lose to the Germans on penalties or something.  Having gotten off to a great start on Friday afternoon, going 3 up by half-time, Stuart Pearce was rightly disappointed at the lack of respect shown to the Swedes in letting them come back to 3-3.  James Milner did a “Beckham” and slipped as he took his penalty, which if you’re not English will look quite comical I imagine.  Didn’t find out the result till I got back in from football.  One of the lads who works at Manor told us it had gone to penalties as he was kicking us off the pitch.

Was another good laugh this weekend, and in front of goal I was on fire drilling shots into the bottom corner on 3 or 4 occasions haha!  Shame Mr Taylor was busy day-dreaming, and let Monica score about 5 goals past him.  When warming up Lee was whipping some crossed in, and I tried a bicycle kick, and proceeded to kick the ball with my big toe which then led to at least a minute rolling around on the floor in agony.  My toe is still sore now at the time of writing this.  After footy I waited around in the car-park chatting to Lee and we sorted out me going round Sat night as Nic was out at a Take That concert in Manchester till Monday.  Got home and hobbled about a bit before getting myself comfy in front of the telly whilst having a chat with CarolAnne.

Songs from my youth.

Been chatting with CarolAnne tonight, given the tragic news about Michael Jackson, about msic from our youth, as we’re both about the same age.  this has lead to me diving deep into Youtube tonight so I can have a listen at some of the songs that seemed to be a big part of my childhood, or atleast the ones that left the biggest impression for some reason or another.  It all stemed from her watching Jonathon Ross on the BBC and his guests being Blue, and she said she remembered them and used to like them.  Then we got chatting bout older music like London Boys and Dire Straits inparticular.  I remember growing up in Rainworth when I was about 10 or 11 and me and a mate of mine would listen to Dire Straits doen at his house for ages.  The two that stick in my head most are the following two:

Money for Nothing

I think it’s the electric guitar part from the beginning that sets the song up for me.

Then you’ve got great songs from Berlinda Carlisle like Circles in the Sand, Heaven is a place on earth, Bananarama with Cruel Summer.  The list seems to go on and on at the minute.

The Bangles

There is so many I’m finding it hard to find my top 5 songs from that era of my life.  Specially with so many other songs like Madness – Our House, so many Michael Jackson songs, Madonna the list seems endless.  I’m gonna sit down and try and write a top 5 (or maybe 10) list of songs from the 80′s (my childhood) and post it on here in the coming days or weeks!

Relaxing couple of evenings

Decided against heading over to the gym on Tuesday, as by the time I’d gotten home I had a massive headache, which I think was partly down to being so tired and being stuck inside the warm office.

Wednesday night I decided to head over to see Lee and Nic in their new home.  Got chatting about a few things, and it seems he’d still addicted to Call of Duty 5 and the zombie levels inparticular.  Might have to sort out my membership and head back online for a few online games.  Was great to see Nic and Lee after all this time, and we’ve started to put plans together for a meal like we did the other year for my birthday.  Winner City is looking good at the moment, maybe the Tuesday after my birthday when it’s Karaoke night haha! Must make sure I have the Wednesday off work tho cos I’ll never get up on the Karakoe stone cold sober.  Got into discussing me selling the Teg, and how I’d quite like a nice little BMW, so he took me out in his, and let me have a bit of a drive, and it’s an awesome car to drive.  IF I ever had enough money I’d defo buy one (or an M3)

Have gotten into a movie wtching mood again lately, and have watched Valkyrie, which is based on a plot to assasinate Hitler at the height of World War 2.  I’ve always been interested in things like that and thought it was quite a good film.  My film geek mate Crit also agreed haha!  Watched Angels and Demons last night and thoroughly enjoyed that also, having read the book a long time ago I remembered certain parts of it when shown in the film and other parts seeemed very new to me.

Had an invite through a good while back to join this new social newtorking site called SQIP.  As a reward for signing up I got 100 free PEP’s or Shares.  These are currently worth 0.82 Euros each.  I forgot all about this until I received an email from the person who first reffered me saying thanks for joining, and my shares are worth 82 Euros at the moment!!  They’re projecting them to be worth even more in the future, so I may just keep hold of them for a bit  Anyone wanting to join up, can do HERE The site is already well within the top 50,000 websites according to Alexa.com

Here’s a couple of pics Bagi has also sent me this week  haha!

Comedy complaint to the local police station

Thanks to Bagi who as usual sent me this pearl this morning

This is a genuine complaint to Devon & Cornwall Police Force from an angry member of the public.

A true email sent to the force, lengthy but brilliantly written…..
————–
Dear Sir/Madam/Automated telephone answering service, Having spent the past twenty minutes waiting for someone at Bodmin police station to pick up a telephone I have decided to abandon the idea and try e-mailing you instead. Perhaps you would be so kind as to pass this message on to your colleagues in Bodmin, by means of smoke signal, carrier pigeon or Ouija board.

As I’m writing this e-mail there are eleven failed medical experiments (I think you call them youths) in St Mary’s Crescent, which is just off
St Mary’s Road in Bodmin. Six of them seem happy enough to play a game which involves kicking a football against an iron gate with the force of a meteorite. This causes an earth shattering CLANG! which rings throughout the entire building. This game is now in its third week and as I am unsure how the scoring system works, I have no idea if it will end any time soon. The remaining five failed-abortions are happily rummaging through several bags of rubbish and items of furniture that someone has so thoughtfully dumped beside the wheelie bins. One of them has found a saw and is setting about a discarded chair like a beaver on ecstasy pills. I fear that it’s only a matter of time before they turn their limited
attention to the caravan gas bottle that is lying on its side between the two bins. If they could be relied on to only blow their own arms and legs off then I would happily leave them to it. I would even go so far as to lend them the matches. Unfortunately they are far more likely to blow up half the street with them and I’ve just finished decorating the kitchen. What I suggest is this – after replying to this e-mail with worthless
assurances that the matter is being looked into and will be dealt with, why not leave it until the one night of the year (probably bath night)
when there are no mutants around then drive up the street in a Panda car before doing a three point turn and disappearing again. This will of
course serve no other purpose than to remind us what policemen actually look like. I trust that when I take a claw hammer to the skull of one of these throwbacks you’ll do me the same courtesy of giving me a four month head start before coming to arrest me.
I remain your obedient servant
???????
———————————————————————
Mr ??????,
I have read your e-mail and understand your frustration at the problems caused by youths playing in the area and the problems you have
encountered in trying to contact the police. As the Community Beat Officer for your street I would like to extend an offer of discussing the matter fully with you. Should you wish to discuss the matter, please provide contact details (address / telephone number) and when may be suitable.
Regards
PC ???????
Community Beat Officer
———————————————————————
Dear PC ???????
First of all I would like to thank you for the speedy response to my original e-mail. 16 hours and 38 minutes must be a personal record for Bodmin Police Station, and rest assured that I will forward these details to Norris McWhirter for inclusion in his next Guinness book of Records.
Secondly I was delighted to hear that our street has its own Community Beat Officer. May I be the first to congratulate you on your covert skills? In the five or so years I have lived in St Mary’s Crescent, I have never seen you. Do you hide up a tree or have you gone deep undercover and
infiltrated the gang itself? Are you the one with the acne and the moustache on his forehead or the one with a chin like a wash hand
basin? It’s surely only a matter of time before you are head-hunted by MI5 to look for Osama. Whilst I realise that there may be far more serious crimes taking place in Bodmin, such as smoking in a public place or being Christian without due care and attention, is it too much to ask for a policeman to explain (using words of no more than two syllables at a time) to these twats that they might want to play their strange football game elsewhere. The pitch on Fairpark Road, or the one at Priory Park are both within spitting distance, as is the bottom of the Par Dock, the latter being the preferred option especially if the tide is in. Should you wish to discuss these matters further you should feel free to
contact me on <???????>. If after 25 minutes I have still failed to answer, I’ll buy you a large one in the Cat and Fiddle Pub.
Regards
?????????
P.S If you think that this is sarcasm, think yourself lucky that you don’t work for the sewerage department with whom I am also in contact

More gym intensity

Got a text from john yesterday saying he was gonna go and get some protein shakes and was I interested in some, so after a few texts he told me he’d got a 2.2kg tub for £27.50 and that it was some seriously good bulking stuff, called Muscle Fuel Anabolic from USN.  Time to give it a try and see if I can get any serious gains from it.  It says take 2 a day for the first 5 days and then 1 a day thereafter.  It’s the same stuff John was on just before he did his hand, and he gave it a good review.  Last night was another intense session on the chest as he counts down to his holidays some more    I’m still catching up on my sleep (or lack of it) from Saturday night, and by 10pm last night I could hardly keep my eyes open! Pretty much slept through the night again which is a shock, and so here I am this morning aching like hell and quite tired.

Having seen the new Newcastle change kit yesterday I feel I’m in the minority that fricking love it, and I can’t wait to purchase it once I have £30 odd in my paypal account (Currently at£9.98 but soon to increase haha)  For anyone wanting a real laugh look HERE on the official Newcastle United FC website.  And before Man Utd fans laugh, lets all remember the attrocious kits that your club had you paying for! Like the Grey one you wore when getting bet @ Southampton that time when your players claimed “They couldn’t see each other from the crowd”  I may have a top 5 or top 10 WORST football strips post in the pipeline now haha!

Got some more funny pictures via email from Mr Baguley this morning, So If I remember I’ll post a few up later.  Also I have worked out why wordpress was messing up my blog for the few people who use IE when viewing my blog.  It really don’t like showing content that had been pasted from Microsoft word straight into WordPress.  How strange, anyway this should now open fine in all browsers again.  Anyone had any problems over the last couple of days?

Caffeine Overdose!

Been a very random this weekend this weekend thats for sure.  One which will stick in my mind for a while thats for sure.  Earlier in the week I’d emailed Bagi asking him if he fancied heading down Chesterfield way one Saturday in July, for him to ring me later that evening, to say he’d mentioned it to Butler, and they’d agreed to go out that coming Saturday.  no messing around with them pair (until it comes to getting ready for a night out, but I maybe more about that later)

Friday evenings football saw a return of “Mr Fair-weather”.  Lee Taylor a.k.a. Lee Westwood has rarely been seen to grace the astro-turf at Manor Sports Complex unless he’s guaranteed a whole hour of un-interrupted sunshine haha!  It was one of the best games I’s played in for a while, with 2 awesome keepers in Lee and Coop frustrating both teams with some pretty awesome saves.  I got a little frustrated that Coop kept saving my shots, whilst at the other end, I kept getting little deflections on loads of shots heading towards Lee, but he did well to keep them out! The game turned in our favour, with a trade-mark Wiggy Header that Smithy ran onto and slotted away.  Lee was appauled at my lack of defensive play as the game went on, but I soon finally got onto the score sheet! We managed to win 7-6! Get in!  Called into the chinese to pick-up the food I’d pre-ordered before I set off to football and then chilled out enjoying a few bottles of Stella and my food, whilst watching a film or two on DVD.
