That was a real “Humdinger”

First of all thanks to the people who wished me well due to my cold, and hope everyone has had a nice Easter break (Those who celebrate Easter that is)

Heard the word Humdinger for the first time in god knows how long this weekend! Was sat watching the Masters Golf on the BBC, and someone played a pretty decent shot, OKAY maybe it was an awesome chip in from about 100 yards  And when I heard it for some reason I couldn’t stop chuckling away to myself! I think it may have been the overdose of Lemsip or something or maybe just the tiredness of very little sleep! It’s a word I’m gonna have to start using from time to time I think!

At the time of writing this I’m now pretty much fully recovered from the cold that took a hold of me last week, and I’m slowly catching up on all the lost hours sleep, so fingers crossed that I can start feeling like the old Wiggy used to feel HAHA!  I always find reading is a great way to tire me out, so I’ve bought a book, Yes thats right no-need to re-read that sentence! I have bought a book.  Those people who watch Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports will known all about this! The book I’ve bought is called “Jellyman’s Thrown a Wobbly” by Jeff Stelling!  All about the goings on behind the scenes during the most popular Saturday afternoon football results service in the world  I actually remember the day he came out and said the very phrase! More on that once I’ve finished the book (I bought it Saturday and have not read a page yet  )

I knew that I had to get out of the house, even tho I was feeling under the weather, with a nose like a tap, and eyes that were streaming at times, and given that Friday morning was the first of my 4 day weekend, I thought I’d atleast get the chance of a lie in! Oh how little I knew! Think it was about half 7ish when I heard a lorry reversing down the street below, and then it seemed to stop pretty much outside my house.  I decided to investigate a little to see the bloke in the bungalow opposite taking a delivery of bricks and things for what appears my be a conservatory/extension.  Got myself some Lemsip and Piriteze in case my hayfever kicks up again any time soon, and headed to my mum and dads.  Started playing Tiger Woods on their Wii (I play it loads more than my dad  ) and then towards the back 9 they decided it was as good a time as any to head over to Derby! I’d mentioned heading over there to my mum, cos I fancied getting out of the house and I’d never been shopping round Derby, and I thought I’d try and infect as many people with my cold as possible! So what better than going over Derby way    Got parked up and had a walk round with my mum, dad and sister, and then inevitabley we got split up, and I had a wander round.  Called into Baronjon and saw John, who’s first words were “You looking fucking knackered and rough” My instant thoughts were “Well thanks MATE”  Had a wander round and bought a few t-shirts from Topman and a top from Baronjon that was marked down from £20 to £16 but I was told I could have it for £10! Bargain.  Messed about over at my parents for a bit, and my mother decided to make me some Pea and Ham soup! I used to love it, ill one day I think I’d just eaten TOO much of it, and suddenly went off it, before deciding to head home for a nice hot bath!  Didn’t really feel upto much for the rest of the evening, so plonked myself in front of the telly and watched a few episodes of NCIS (I’m really getting back into this program too) and then CSI New York before heading to bed.

Seemed to have a decent nights sleep Friday night, and Saturday morning I was feeling a bit better, even tho I was up at 8 and in Tesco to meet my mum at half 8! Only for her to show up late as my dad got carried away watching something pointless on the telly.  Had a nice walk round town for  abit and our now traditional breakfast in Debenhams, before heading back to Rainworth and nipping into the coffee shop!  Called back to my mums for a coffee, then headed back home to watch the football! Liverpool were quite irresistable against Blackburn (As much as it pains me to say) And Sunderland were equally woeful against Man Utd at times.  Having known the results by the time Newcastle kicked off, everything was geared up for a must-win game against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium! Well thats what the supporters were hoping for! Instead Big Al seemed to have them playing 3-5-2 which I cant recall us EVER having played, nd it just didn’t see to work! Stoke were the team on top for a good 60 odd minutes of the game, backed by their vociferous crowd (You can see why they’ve taken something like 29 points at home with a crowd like that behind them)  Once Joans came on and we switched to 4-4-2 we started playing a bit better, and the introduction of Andy Carrol for an ineffective Shola Ameobi was the catalyst/massive kick up the backside we required  Once he’d got his equaliser with a great header we suddenly seemed to play! I still dont think that as good as a point away at Stoke is, that it will be enough come the end of the season! Maybe if we can replicate the last 20 minutes for 90 minutes in the remainder of the games we may get enough points, but at the minute I’m sceptical about the whole staying up issue! This is in start contrast to Mr 6k over HERE who is wondering wether his team can last the pace ;) given their rise into 3rd place in the championship which came as a bit of a surprise when I read that!!

Got up Sunday and filled my forms in for the Mansfield Half Marathon, which I duely handed into Bobby, and reminded Brad that he agreed the club will pay if we’re both gonna run for the club, and I mentioned running for a charity and maybe splitting the money we raise between the club and a charity, and he seemed fine with that :) Was a decent enough game, altho since the game Maddsy has told me he feels I play better when I’ve had a McDonalds breakfast, which I’d decided against that morning.  Bit of a moan against what Brad said at half time! He moaned that the defence were too deep and the gap between the defence and midfield was too great.  In my eyes, when a goalkeeper has a huge kick down hill, you wanna drop off, and come to meet the ball, as opposed to holding a high line and having to turn and chase the ball, which will give their forwards a chance! So we’re too deep etc, and a defender wins man of the match :?

Brads Match Report:

A convincing scoreline but not so convincing performance.

Changes were made again to keep every on their toes, this week saw the ever-present Scotty and club Captain Jock move to the bench. In came Moorey and Greg.

It was a poor first half performance from RandK today, Our defence was too deep and no-one was talking. At times we looked like a primary school team.

But we did get the break-through mid-way through the first half, a Bud run was halted with a foul inside the box and Moorey calmy slotted home for his 1st goal of the season. We were still not playing to our potential but were beginning to create chances, we had 2 shots cleared off the line, firstly Bud rounded the keeper only to see his effort kicked off the line then a Smithy headed was cleared from the resulting corner.

Half-time 1-0

The half-time talked consisted mainly of Brad slating the teams performance and informing the defence not to sit back as much.

The second half performance was an improved one, firstly our defence caught 2 players offside for the first time in the game thanks to pushing up and we seemed to be wanting and showing for the ball more.

RandK were awarded their second penalty of the game after an handball from a Carpenters defender, this time Moorey sent the keeper the wrong way. 2-0.

Scotty and Jock replaced Willa and Greg and this seemed to make RandK step up a gear, Scotty soon found himself on the scoresheet, a great ball from Rob found the right winger who cooly lobbed the on-rushing goalie from 16 yards.

Bud hit a free-kick against the bar and at that point he must of realised it was not going to be his day. However he did turn provider for Winty to powerfully head home from close range.

A good result but we need to improve the performance as league leaders Jolly Friar come to Healdswood next week and if we play like we did today, they will have done the double over us.

MOM – Rob, chosen by Brad. Their was 3 or 4 players today that could have took the MOM but Rob was super at the back today and played a cracking ball to set up RandK’s 3rd goal of the game. Well done pal.

Goal summary:

21 min – Ian Moore (7/10)
Richard Waring is fouled in the box, and Ian Moore slotted home with a fine right footed finish.

52 min – Ian Moore (7/10)
Ian Moore made no mistake with a fine right footed penalty. Following an hand-ball in the area.

75 min – Scott Hart (8/10)
Rob Williams supplied the through-ball, and Scott Hart found the net from just inside the box with a tremendous right footed effort, lobbing the keeper.

85 min – Chris Wint (7/10)
Richard Waring supplied the cross, and Chris Wint found the net from six yards out with a speculative headed goal.

After the game I went round for my dinner at the parents, and was playing on Tiger Woods golf, when my dad finally plucked up the courage to take me on at a game  Everything was going well for me and my amateur Wiggy, but then my dad realised what he was doing and clawed it back, and by the time the Wii remote decided to break he was winning, so I quickly called it a day and drove home

Bank Holiday Monday I decided to do some housework including loads of washing, and general tidying up, whilst scaring the hell out of myself after by watching The Italian Job.  Like a twat I’d turned the surround sound up a bit louder than normal, and when they blow the safe through the floor in Venice, I’ve never jumped up so quickly! My heart was racing for about 20 minutes afterwards

Been to the gym tonight, and John was already there! The small difference being the pot on his arm! Playing on sunday, he went for a header and lost his balance, the player jumped OVER him, and he landed squarely on his hand! Turns out he’s snapped a bone, and  crushed a ligament! Had to have an op on his hand to clear it out and re-align the bone.  Sounds like a nasty job, and he thinks he’s gonna be out of serious gym action for a while, and may not be lifting what he has been for about a year.  He didn’t seem too impressed when I told him I was using his break as motivation to bulk myself up more, and try and lift what he had been doing and more ;) He was busy training legs and stomach, whilst I whizzed through my chest session, and added a bit of stomach work in too.  He did seem to be looking very sorry for himself, as the 2 things he loves doing (apart from being with Carolyn  ) He’s unable to do for a few months. I’m currently in the middle of watching a right game of football! Chelsea at home, and 2-0 down after only 25 minutes. To be honest I don’t care who goes through as I hate both teams with a passion

Did you watch the whole of the game? I only really started paying attention after the second Liverpool goal.

And did you see Drogba’s antics in that game?! Was he going for an academy award or something? :D

  • Wiggy UNITED KINGDOM says:

Yeah I did mate! Thats the next blog when I get round to writing it  Think the best part was when Drogba went off the pitch injured, saw the ref didn’t stop play, then crawled about 5 yards ONTO the pitch to get play stopped  Classic Drogba there

  • 6000 says:

    What a game.

Drogba did stay up well in the build up to Lampard’s “winner” though, despite nearly being broken.

  • Wiggy UNITED KINGDOM says:

Yeah fair-does to him for that! Altho let it be noted we here on this blog DO NOT like Drogba and will rarely praise the guy!
