My top 5 games of football
After taking credit for giving the idea towards Hindleyite’s post HERE on Retro Yakking, and in the light of the Chelsea vs Liverpool Champions League Quarter-Final the other night, I decided that I’d try and compile a list of my top 5 favourite football matches. I’m sure I’ve missed some cracking games out, so may have to make it a top 10 in a few weeks once I’ve given it even more thought
This is only my list, and I know there will be considerable bias show towards a certain team
So the list in Reverse Order…
5. Sheffield United vs Nottingham Forest from Bramall Lane – 15-5-2003 – Think Mr 6K will like these highlights

4. Chelsea vs Liverpool from Stamford Bridge – 14-04-2009 Champions League Quarter Final
3. Manchester United 4 – 3 Real Madrid. One of the only times I’ve heard Old Trafford give an away player (The Real Ronaldo) a standing ovation when he was substituted.
2. Germany 1 – 5 England. Possibly the best I’ve witnessed an England team play! Made more special by beating the Germans in their own backyard after all these years

1. Top of the list has to be the demolition of Manchester United @ St James’ Park

It’s always nice to see us battering the Germans. I remember watching that game, and when we went 1-0 down everyone said we were gonna get battered. How wrong they were…
Also, Man U hate losing, don’t they?
I was in the local snooker hall for the England game! I don’t remember ANYTHING after 9pm All I know is my parents were away and I woke up in the Hall using coats as duvets, with the mother of all headaches
Played football next morning NEVER AGAIN!
And regarding Man Utd losing… They hate it… WE LOVE IT!!
I watched the Newcastle v Man U game at St James’ Park. And the Blades v Forest at Bramall Lane.
The England game I watched in the Brittania in Headington, Oxford and the Liverpool v Chelsea on my sofa, with a beer.
Wow – that play-off semi-final was superb. Every emotion. We also made the semis of the Carling and FA Cups that year.
And then we messed up at Cardiff. Lost 0-3 to Wolves. Dreadful.
I was at the Old Trafford FA Cup semi v Arsenal as well, which featured “that save” by David Seaman from Paul Peschisolido. Still don’t know how he did it.
Yeah I remember winning about £150 on that game through correct score, first goalscorer and last goalscorer.
